Azhayuka (Vespian: File:Vespian A.svgFile:Vespian X.svgFile:Vespian A.svgFile:Vespian Y.svgFile:Vespian O.svgFile:Vespian K.svgFile:Vespian A.svg, Âxâyöka) is the goddess of sins, mistakes, foolish reasoning, consequences, trauma, the victims and children of rape, and those unjustly punished for crimes they did not commit in the religion of Zheaniism. She is an outcast and product of rape between her two mothers, Voyana and Ovana, and counted among the youngest of the gods within the pantheon of the tavina.

Origins[edit]

Azhayuka was born to Ovana and Voyana, a product of rape by the latter against the former. Her origins begin with the failures of Voyana to focus upon her responsibilities as a diety, instead, wandering the halls of TBD in the middle of the night rather than looking to the physical realm and performing her duties as assigned to her by her father, Zhautan. While wandering through the halls, Voyana came across the personal baths of her sister, Ovana, who was within preparing for her tasks. Peering within to see what her sister was doing, a failure on Voyana's part to mind her business and look to her own tasks, she instead saw the supple form of Ovana, a rare sight due to Ovana's constant use of cloaks and robes in contrary to the scantily clad nature of both her sisters and their mortal Vespian counterparts. Infatuated with her sister, Voyana was determined to have her at any cost, and quickly devised as plan to take her sister by force before she left her baths. Knowing her sister's love for gifts and surprises, a result of her already knowing what the contents of said gifts would bearing the power of foresight, Voyana crafted a small box scented with lavender and frankincense, and placed it within the room of Ovana. Voyana entered the box and awaited her sister's arrival, hoping that her curiosity would get the better of her and entice her into approaching it.

When Ovana eventually emerged, she did take note of the gift in her quarters, though she knew exactly where it came from, what was within it, and what Voyana's intentions were toward her sister. However, against her better judgement, Ovana ignored her precognitive powers afforded to her as the goddess of protection and interiors. She knew full well what her sister had in mind for her, but being naively hopeful that her sister was not the monster her powers were shouting warnings about, Ovana ignored the danger and greeted her sister within the scented box anyway. Taking advantage of her sister's kind nature, Voyana jumped from the hiding spot and took Ovana by the throat and carried her off to her bed, and began to rape her in as brutal a fashion as capable to her. Ovana's screams of pain and outrage stirred her siblings from their rest, leading to several running to Ovana's quarters to determine the source of the shouting. Shovik, being the fastest of the gods, was the first to arrive, and caught sight of the crime in action. The startled Voyana fled off into the darkness to escape retribution from her family, though not before having impregnated Ovana with her offspring. Hazana and Vakon were second to arrive, and immediately apprehended Voyana, who had as a result of being caught in the middle of an orgasm, left enough of a trail for the two gods to follow and use to capture Voyana.

Voyana and Ovana were brought before Zhautan, who upon being informed of what transpired in the middle of the night, immediately flew into a rage against Voyana. The rage boiled over when it become known that Ovana was carrying a child as the direct result of Voyana's crime against her sister. Furious to the point of no return, Zhautan was about to pass the judgement of death upon her until Yon intervened on Voyana's behalf. As the god of truth, Yon could see into the hearts of all beings, and was able to discern the actions that took place in their entirety. He reasoned that the actions or inaction of Ovana were not being taken into consideration, revealing that Ovana had known about Voyana's true intentions and instead ignored them believing that Voyana's nature could be overcome. As a result of her lack of judgement, the rape was the consequence of Ovana's refusal to listen to her better judgement and deny Voyana her rapacious lusts. After considering his words, Zhautan rescinded his judgement against Voyana, and instead allowed Yon to determine the best course of action to take with regards to the two sisters.

Yon knew that Ovana had no desire to be involved in the life of this rape child, and that Voyana's nature would see to it that no punishment would correct her course. Instead, Yon decided to punish the child itself for the crimes of the mother, much to the delight of Ovana. The child would serve as an example to both gods and men the consequences of attempting to abuse one's powers and the trust of others, or perform malicious acts in secret in places where they believed themselves beyond the sight of the gods. Azhayuka would be born with a body virtually consumed by a black viscous substance that represented the sins and indiscretions of men, forever in pain and tormented by the actions of others. She would be cursed with the sight of all the crimes and monstrous deeds of all life in creation, helpless to stop it from happening, and helpless to prevent their deeds from causing her physical and mental pain, an apt punishment in the eyes of Yon for the sins of her mother. In the end, Voyana, though a ruthless individual, was still a mother who loved her offspring, and would be tormented with the sight of powerlessly watching her child be consumed with pain as she suffered under the sins of those she had never met.

Interpretation[edit]

The lead up to Azhayuka's birth as the goddess of sins, indiscretions, and foolish reasoning, can all be found in the various actions of her two mothers, Voyana and Ovana. Regarding the sins, the rape of Ovana stands out as the most egregious of the actions cited. Though not a sin in modern Vespian society as a consequence of their views regarding sex and interactions within non-Vespians, among the gods of the Vespian pantheon, rape of a fellow god was considered beyond obscene, and the events leading up to it unforgivable. Voyana had betrayed the trust of her sister Ovana, who in a marked change from her otherwise cautious nature, lowered her guard out of respect and concern for the well-being of Voyana, and believing her sister was beyond the criminal acts which unfolded that night. The third sin was the refusal of Ovana to heed the warnings granted to her by her power of foresight, a gift bestowed upon her by Zhautan when he created her. To completely ignore the divine powers within her possession led to an action that was entirely avoidable and could have been resolved without any trauma on her part. For this reason, Ovana was also punished by having to carry the offspring of Voyana against her will even though the entire event could have been better resolved by Yon and Zhautan. Finally, it was the refusal of Voyana to see to her duties and to traspass on the grounds of her sister, which led to her violating her sister. These events all combined form a count of five sins and a grave mistake on the part of Ovana.

Regarding foolish reasoning, it is often held by the Vespians that Voyana had come to believe that due to her domain over acts of rape within the hidden confines of human dwellings, that Ovana, being the goddess of interiors, would have known what she had planned for her and reacted differently to protect herself. However, given that Ovana disregarded her ability to see the future actions of individuals, including those of her siblings, that she was in effect consenting to what Voyana sought to do to her. For this reason, Voyana acted on the belief that her actions were condoned by Ovana as Voyana could never have hoped to see what her sister saw or her reasoning for ignoring the warnings she had about the rape. Consequently, because of these combined actions, Yon's decision to punish Azhayuka rather than Voyana or Oyani is considered just, as both sisters were in the wrong for differing but similar reasons. As such, Azhayuka's origin is considered mostly a tragic one for her rather than her mothers, as it was their inability to reason that resulted in Azhayuka having to suffer for their actions. Within Vespian society, the story of Azhayuka is sometimes used as a means of warning others to consider the long-term effects of their actions, as no one can truly say who will be harmed in the long-run. While some may only consider themselves or the others they interact with as the most likely people to be effected by their decisions, more often than not, it is the unborn who will have to carry the burden of their parents and ancestors for untold generations, just like Azhayuka has had to do for her mothers.

Shovik (Vespian: File:Vespian S.svgFile:Vespian O.svgFile:Vespian V.svgFile:Vespian I.svgFile:Vespian K.svg, Šovīk) is the god of speech, messages, travelers, and thieves within the religion of Zheaniism. Shovik is commonly known for his role in rescuing the souls of the deceased from the maw of Zhanivoyan as they are drawn into the afterlife, preventing them from being devoured and wiped from existence. He is constantly portrayed as an altruistic being, putting the needs of his family and servants ahead of himself for the greater good of the war effort against the great horror personified by the beast, Zhanivoyan.
