Mikaea, officially the Patrimony of Mikael, is a sovereign island nation located in the northeastern Pacific Ocean, off the coast of North America. The country is comprised of the island of Mikaea and several smaller islands that are located some 190.36 kilometers (118.28 mi) to the east of Canada, and roughly 215.19 kilometers (133.71 mi) to the south of the U.S. state of Alaska. Mikaea is a heavily-forested and mountainous country notable for its relatively remote location, being one of the last regions in the world to be settled by humans, with the first arrival of humans being in the mid-19th century. Mikaea is likewise notable for being one of the rainiest countries in the Northern Hemisphere. The country is divided into TBD districts group into five regions; with its capital and largest city, Family Pride, located northeastern portion of the country. Geographically, Mikaea is one of the smaller nations in the world, with a total area of 57,011.93 km2 (22,012.43 sq mi), making it the 123rd largest nation in the world. Mikaea is home to more than twelve million inhabitants, almost all of whom are of Mikaean descent, with more than half of them residing in the capital city and its adjoining suburbs. With the exception of Family Pride, all of Mikaea's other cities boast populations of less than one million, with the five largest cities outside of the capital being Blackstone, Princeton, Englewood, Drexel, and Edgewater.
Etymology[edit]
The island of Mikaea is named after Mikael O'Neill, the creator of the inhabitants and founding father of the nation. In government documents and foreign correspondence, the country is officially referred to as the "Patrimony of Mikael", referring to Mikael's personal ownership and dominion over all of the Mikaeans and the land upon which they live, as well as his role as the biological father of all living Mikaeans in the world. In typical day-to-day life, the name "Mikaea" is used by Mikaeans and foreigners alike. The feminine name "Mikaea" arose from the common view of the all-female Mikaeans, that given that all of their people are the direct biological offspring of Mikael, the country constituted by the Mikaeans as a whole was Mikael's "daughter" in the most realistic and symbolic sense of the word. So as to more clearly delineate between the terminology of the two names: the "Patrimony of Mikael" involves any direct communication with the Mikaean government, as the government and bureaucracy is vested with the power and speak and act in the name of the Highfather; the name "Mikaea" represents any reference to the country itself, which does not directly include the Highfather, but solely its female citizens. Thus, to summarize the point, the Patrimony—the government and its officials—is "person" of Mikael, while Mikaea—the country and its citizens—is the "daughter" of Mikael.

As a race, the Mikaeans are timid and soft-spoken, non-confrontational when and where possible, and opting to avoid interacting with non-Mikaeans at all available opportunities. They are deeply religious, and find atheists intolerable to deal with for prolonged periods of time should their disbelief in a higher power become knowledge to the Mikaeans. Mikaeans dress conservatively and maintain a neat and symmetrical appearance at all times when in public. Though no prohibition against drinking alcoholic beverages exists within Mikaea, Mikaeans prefer to avoid consuming any non-medicinal substances that would addle their mental capacity in any way. This also includes any substances that may cause long-lasting and harmful changes to their body, such as tobacco and marijuana.
