Unagami (Japanese: 海上 Unagami), officially the Unagami Autonomous Prefecture (海上自治県 Unagami jichi-ken) is a prefecture of Japan located in the northeastern Pacific Ocean just off the coast of North America. The prefecture lies on the Salish Sea and shares maritime borders with the Canadian province of British Columbia to the north and east and the U.S. State of Washington to the south. It is the easternmost and westernmost prefecture of Japan and is the only prefecture located in the western hemisphere and in the Americas. The capital of the prefecture is Unagami City and its largest city is Shinraku. Japanese and English are the official languages, with the Okinawan language also being spoken by a sizable percentage of the population.
